challenge

Problem

The project seeks to enhance the energy supply for the community in Dete with renewable energy, since there has been no electricity yet. The only source of energy is firewood and the only source of light are torches and solar lights. The objective is not only to provide the community with clean and affordable energy, but also to implement a project, which will serve as a showcase on a national and international level.

Solution

The solution that was implemented in collaboration between CAA, UNDP and the Rural Electrification Agency of Zimbabwe. The solution is a complete stand alone mini grid for the village of Dete, which enables to usage of smart integrated services like PAYG meters, which are highly adaptable to the demand of each individual. The solution contains 120kWp of solar panels including battery banks for the night. The system can be monitored remotley which enables simple maintenance for the service provider and preventative action taking in case of any unforseen issues. The system provides the community with a constant and reliable supply of renewable energy, which also supports the local economy, by making food and medicine last longer.
