Illuminating Zimbabwe: The Quest for Reliable Electricity

Zimbabwe clearly recognizes the importance of solar energy in addressing its electricity challenges, enhancing energy security, and contributing to environmental sustainability.

CAA Energy GmbH has successfully completed the supply of tree contracts in Zimbabwe in the last two months. All financed by the UNDP of Zimbabwe have an major impact on the country.

Zimbabwe, located in southern Africa, is a country with a diverse and dynamic landscape, rich in natural resources, and a population that relies heavily on agriculture and mining for its livelihood. When it comes to its electricity network, Zimbabwe has faced significant challenges in recent years, including power shortages and an unreliable grid infrastructure. Excellent examples show the contracts which CAA Energy has completed in the last months covering various areas of transition.

The first project being, an upgrade of the already existing Solar Power Plant by replacing outdated batteries with newest technology Lithium Ion Cells in the Mashaba area. Extending the lifetime of the power plant for at least 10 years.

The second project focusing on CO2 reduction and energy efficiency at UNDPs country office in the capital, Harare. Using the limited available space by installing the solar modules as a car port structure, and customizing the systems for UNDP, CAA has successfully completed this installation and is now maintaining the system for the next 2 years. The latest project, just delivered this week will, for the first time provide renewable energy to the remote community of Dete. A complete independent mini-grid with backup batteries and a distribution infrastructure will provide uninterrupted power to more than 50 households, schools, clinics and trading centres. This project has been a joint effort of UNDP, REF and CAA Energy.
